Derm Approved Holiday Beauty Tips

SOCAH Center

‘Tis the season for beautiful skin and hair! By this time of year, you’re probably stressed about whether or not you’ll be able to pull off a perfect holiday celebration- which is not good for that beautiful skin and hair I mentioned. But don’t worry, I have put together a list of dermatologist approved tips that will help you look your best this holiday season.

1. Beauty Rest
Yes, beauty rest is actually a thing. “Beauty rest is important for repair of the skin, building collagen, preventing aging, preventing inflammation to stop acne, and healing wounds quickly,” says board-certified dermatologist Nikki Hill MD. It also affects the dilation of the blood vessels so color and swelling of the eyes as well as hydration status of the skin can all be affected. We’re all busy, especially around this time of year. But, be sure you are getting an adequate amount of sleep every night. Your skin will thank you for it.

2. Drink more water
This one is kind of obvious, so why do we tend to drink less water during the drier seasons? We’re drinking more coffee and tea to get us through those chilly winter days. If you want to keep your hair and skin looking healthy, hydrate your body from the inside out. You should drink just as much water as you would during the summer.

3. Deep Condition
During the winter, humidity in the air drops with cool outdoor temperatures. This combined with the use of heating systems indoors causes hair to become dry and brittle. Weekly treatments will ensure that the moisture your hair loses is replaced. Grab your favorite product and commit to deep conditioning once a week.

4. Use Thicker Moisturizers
A good moisturizer is going to be your best friend this winter. Opt for moisturizers with hyaluronic acid in the first 5 ingredients as this ingredient can help seal in moisture. The main function of this ingredient is to keep  your tissues well lubricated and moist by retaining water. I recommenced the SOCAH|Skin Hydrate Face Moisturizer, which instantly hydrates dry skin leaving skin feeling smooth and nourished.

5. Botox/ Fillers
Are you ready for holiday photos? If you’re short on time, a quick cosmetic touch up will help you put your best face forward. Muscles underneath your facial skin are responsible for wrinkling your forehead when you frown, crinkling the corners of your eyes when you squint, and lifting your eyebrows when you’re surprised. Neurotoxins such as Botox, relax these muscles and the overlying skin. Dermal fillers can also treat signs of
aging. They add volume, thereby filling lines, wrinkles and folds from the inside out.

Don’t let the winter get the best of you this holiday season. Everyone wants to look and feel their best this time of year, and these tips will ensure you do!
