Mole & Skin Tag Removal in Atlanta, ga

What causes moles?

Moles are caused when cells in the skin, called melanocytes, grow in clusters or clumps. Clusters of these pigmented cells commonly appear as small, dark brown spots. Moles can develop on any part of your body. They can vary in size and can be flat or raised, smooth or wrinkled. Most people have between 10 and 40 moles. However, new moles can develop up until your mid-30s.

When should I get concerned about a mole?

Warning signs that a mole may be cancerous or developing precancerous changes include asymmetry in border, color, and shape. Normal moles are typically one shade or color. Those that display variations of red, tan, and dark brown may signal a problem. Other signs include the color that spreads beyond the borders of the mole. A concerning mole may become itchy and show scaling and redness.

Most moles are harmless but a dermatology skin exam is necessary to ensure that moles do not have any concerning features. Dr. Hill will examine each mole on your body for concerning symptoms and may recommend you return for routine skin exams or biopsy/removal of a mole.

What causes skin tags?

Skin tags are harmless growths that occur in the folds of skin on the neck, underarms, and groin. They present as fleshy skin-colored bumps that have a thin stalk. Friction, diabetes, weight gain, and genetics can lead to the development of these growths. Dr. Hill has years of experience removing these cumbersome lesions with a multitude of procedures.

How do you remove a skin tag?

Skin tags often can be clipped off, frozen with liquid nitrogen, or burned with a cautery which leaves behind little to no scar. There is only minimal, if any discomfort, associated with any of these techniques. Dr. Hill will recommend the method best suited for the number, size, and location of your skin tags.

How do you remove a mole?

A true mole, or nevus, must be removed surgically to eliminate recurrence. We have two primary methods of expert mole removal:

Shaving the mole, which requires no stitches and leaves a round scar
Excision, which involves a simple stitch with a linear scar
Dr. Hill will check the condition of every mole before offering treatment options and recommendations for your circumstances.
