Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in Atlanta, GA
What is PRP?
PRP is a natural substance that’s obtained in our office through a routine blood draw. We use a centrifuge to spin down the blood so we can gather vital stem cell-specific platelets and other growth factors. We then activate those platelets with natural additives that enable these growth components to interact with surrounding cells in treatment sites on your body.
The final step is injecting areas of the scalp, face, or other areas with the concentrated platelet solution. The PRP solution can stimulate hair growth, rejuvenate collagen production to fade lines and wrinkles, and improve the skin’s overall texture and tone. It can also be used as a filler to increase volume.
Can PRP really help with hair loss?
PRP is effective for male pattern and female pattern hair loss. There are other hair loss conditions PRP has been used for but, as a restoration expert, Dr. Hill prefers more effective modalities to treat other types of alopecia.
Patients typically require three to six PRP treatments and will see increased hair growth and thickening in about six months. Dr. Hill often recommends combination treatments for effectively treating hair loss, which she will discuss in detail at the time of your consultation.
How can PRP help rejuvenate facial skin?
Collagen is one of the proteins naturally produced by your body to strengthen and repair tissue. It’s vital to skin tone and health, but production declines during the natural aging process. PRP stimulates cells to divide and migrate, including those cells integral to creating collagen. PRP alone or combined with other skin care regimens can increase collagen production.
The additional collagen rejuvenates the face and creates a more youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles, improving your skin’s texture and tone, and adding volume to areas such as the cheeks. PRP therapy is also helpful in restoring volume and youthful tone to the skin of the neck, hands, and chest.
Will PRP help with scars?
Whether it’s scarring due to previous acne outbreaks or irregular healing after trauma or surgery, PRP can help soften and smooth the skin texture in the affected area. Newer scars often show visible improvement much faster than aged scars. For optimal scar reduction, Dr. Hill generally recommends a combination of scar reduction therapies that include a series of PRP sessions.
